BICL researchers publish landmark perspective on semiquantitative MRI evaluation as part of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage’s 30th Anniversary Issue

BICL researchers publish landmark perspective on semiquantitative MRI evaluation as part of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage’s 30th Anniversary Issue. Dr. Roemer and Colleagues discuss the evolution of the multiple MRI scoring systems available today and the role of radiography in the context of clinical trials. This perspective gives a comprehensive overview of the current role of SQ assessment particular in a DMOAD context covering the following topics: 1) description of main whole organ knee SQ scoring systems and their differences, 2) focused knee scoring systems designed for specific purposes e.g. such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury or clinical trial inclusion and additional considerations, 3) SQ scoring of joints other than the knee, 4) responsiveness and reliability of SQ assessment, 5) technical aspects, 6), observational studies of knee OA, 7) clinical trials of knee OA, and 8) impact of artificial intelligence (AI).
